Two years after announcing plans for high-end custom homes in Weston, a builder broke ground this week on Botaniko Weston at the former Bonaventure Country Club golf course.
David Martin, co-founder of the Terra real estate firm, said more than 45 of the planned 125 homes are under contract. Prices are from $1.8 million to $3 million, and the first residents are expected to be moving in within 10 to 12 months, Martin said.
The development will feature one- and two-story contemporary homes ranging from five to seven bedrooms and from 6,500 to 9,700 square feet. Tennis star Venus Williams' V Starr Interiors is designing the interiors of the homes.
Martin said he's pleased with the sales pace, considering vertical construction of the homes is just now beginning.
"As we go vertical, we expect to see increased demand from local, move-up buyers," he said.
In 2014, Terra paid $30 million for the 121 acres at Bonaventure. The builder bought the land from the New York-based Chetrit Group and Hollywood developer Ari Pearl.
The tricounty region has seen a pent-up demand for new homes amid land shortages in recent years, analysts say. Many of the new developments are geared to affluent buyers.
